Picking the Appropriate 4x4 Truck Tires
Hot sun, blue skies, sweat and dust. When you hear these words, there is only one thing you can think of - off
roading! Many people today are enjoying the ability to be able to take a dirt road off the highway and go exploring. However, to be able to have an enjoyable experience, it requires that first you have an appropriate vehicle and most importantly 4x4 truck tires to handle the terrain. The average person doesn't know much about different types of 4x4 tires, but if you're one who wants to enjoy the ability of going off-road without ruining your street tires, then you'll need to purchase good quality 4x4 truck tires.
First of all, the most commonly used tires fall into three categories. All Purpose, All Terrain and Mud Terrain tires. All purpose are what is more commonly known as street tires. They are quiet on the highways and ride smooth. When buying a new vehicle from a dealer, the tires are most likely the street tires. All Terrain tires are a step up from them and are made tougher and larger. See a set of Yokohama Geolander tires as an example. Most SUV's and trucks are equipped with All Terrain tires which gives them the ability to be able to go off road as well as drive on the highways. They're able to drive on and over rocks, sand, snow and mud. Manufacturers now are even making 4x4 truck tires that still do the job off road but are making them quieter and smoother on the highways.
Mud Terrain tires like the Mud King tires are for off road enthusiasts who spend about 80% off road and 20% on the highways. They have wide lugs that can hook onto rocks and can climb themselves up. They also have the ability to self-clean. These make for excellent 4x4 truck tires. Most average people though, use their primary vehicles to go off road too. Having 4x4 truck tires means something different for every person who has them. Originally 4x4 tires were made narrower so that they could cut through slick, muddy surfaces and drive on the hard surface beneath. Now,
off-roading activities has become much more wild and there are so many different kinds of terrains to explore.
When choosing 4x4 truck tires for off-roading, make sure you have an adequate measurement of the side-wall. Low profile tires are fine for road use, but for off-road use, you'd want a higher profile tire. It all really depends on your needs and dont confuse them with automobile tire ratings. If you have an SUV for the family and it's purposely only for road use, then All Purpose tires are more appropriate. But All Terrain tires are the most popular chosen tires for 4x4 trucks.
